The schooldata.org database provides test result fields and fields describing the setting. The SMMBTGYY format for test result headers is used in the SchoolData.org database. Briefly, these 8 characters are decoded as follows:
  • S: Subject (M=Math, R=Reading, ...)
  • MM: The measure (Ci=perecnt of students meeting or exceesing cut point i, NT=number of tests.) Note that in addition to the cut points provided in the AIR database 'CP' (percent passing) is also used.
  • B: The student breakdown (T=All, W=White, B=Black, A=Asian, H=Hispanic, D=Economically disadvantaged...)
  • T: The test index (0 is the main test, some states offer more than one)
  • G: The grade (G=2,..G=9 as expected and then 1=10, A=11, B=12)
  • YY: The calender year at the end of the school year. (eg: `03` is the 2002-2003 school year)
